The Floral Symbolism of March
March is an energetic month, and the flowers associated with it reflect this vigor. The blooms that star in the season represent various qualities and messages, each bearing a unique form of expression:
- Daffodils – A Promise of Rebirth and New Beginnings – The daffodil, with its distinctive trumpet shape and vibrant yellow hue, is one of the most cheerful harbingers of spring. In many cultures, daffodils symbolize rebirth and new beginnings. They are a perfect choice for couples celebrating years together, yet still eager for the adventures that lie ahead.
- Jonquils – Eternal Affection and Fidelity – A close relative of the daffodil, the jonquil blooms with multiple flowers per stem, exuding a sweet fragrance. These delicate blossoms signify a love that is both eternal and faithful, adding a touch of subtlety and charm to your anniversary bouquet.
- Violets – Modesty and Loyalty – Violets, with their velvety petals and deep, regal colors, have been linked to faithfulness and modesty for centuries. Gifting violets is a tender gesture that speaks volumes about your appreciation for your relationship’s steadfastness.
- Cherry Blossoms – A Sweet, Fleeting Love – The fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms underscores a love that is both sweet and ephemeral. These delicate flowers have a profound significance in Japanese culture, where they symbolize the transient nature of life – making them a poignant choice for celebrating a love that is cherished deeply.
- Hyacinths – Playful Joy and Sport – In Greek mythology, the hyacinth was a symbol of play and competition. Today, these flowers are associated with a more general sense of joy and the coming of spring. They are perfect for anniversary celebrations filled with laughter and warmth.
March Anniversary Plants to Nurture your Relationship.
Sometimes, a single bouquet isn’t enough to convey the depth of your love. Anniversary plants offer the recipient a living, thriving symbol to nurture, much like a marriage. Here are a few plant options for March anniversaries:
- Primrose – Young Love and New Beginnings – The primrose, with its multitude of colors and its association with young love, is ideal for couples celebrating their most tender beginnings or those who still find their relationship blossoming and evolving.
- Shamrocks – Luck in Love and Life – Shamrocks embody Ireland’s rich cultural heritage and the universal desire for luck and prosperity. When gifted on an anniversary, shamrocks signify the hope for continued good fortune in the relationship and life as a whole.
Creative Ways to Include March Blooms in Your Anniversary
Gifting flowers and plants is a timeless tradition, but there are numerous creative ways to incorporate March blooms into your anniversary celebration that will leave a lasting impression:
- A Memory Garden – A Living Testament to Your Love – Create a memory garden with flowers that hold special meaning for you and your partner. Add a daffodil for every year you’ve been together, plant a ring of hyacinths to guard your blossoming love, or interlace violets with the greenery as a gentle nod to the loyalty of your union.
- Custom Potpourri – A Scent-Sational Anniversary – Dry and preserve your March blooms to create a custom potpourri. This aromatic blend will evoke not only the splendor of the blooms but also the cherished memories you share as a couple. Place it in a decorative dish as a gift that keeps on giving.
- Floral Jewelry – A Unique and Lasting Adornment – Commission a skilled florist to immortalize your anniversary blooms in a piece of floral jewelry. From pendants to cufflinks, wearable flowers add a personal touch and serve as elegant reminders of your special day.
- Interweaving Tradition with Modern Celebrations – While the act of gifting flowers remains timeless, modern technology and creativity have expanded the ways in which you can celebrate your love:
- Virtual Bouquets – Bringing Beauty Home Digitally – In today’s digital age, distance or busy schedules need not keep you from celebrating with a beautiful arrangement. Consider gifting a virtual bouquet – a high-resolution, professionally shot image of a floral arrangement that can be ‘sent’ instantly, offering all the visual delight without the wilting.
- Smart Pots and Self-Watering Systems – Making Plant Care a Breeze – For those without a green thumb, smart pots with built-in watering systems, or monitor the health of your plants and ensure they receive the appropriate level of hydration and sunlight.

Anniversaries are mile markers on the road of life, and the flowers and plants you choose to mark the occasion should mirror the beauty, steadfastness, and joy of your relationship. Whether it is the vibrant yellows of daffodils promising a bright future or the regal purples of violets affirming loyalty, March anniversary blooms speak volumes without a single word being uttered. FLOWERS ARE THE PERFECT GIFT FOR ANY OCCASION

Flowers are one of the most frequently sent gifts in the country. Hoover-Fisher Florist offers a wide variety of blooms. One of the best selections in Montgomery County.
Daffodils – are a type of flower that is known for its bright yellow buds and petals. They are typically in bloom from February to April but can differ depending on the weather conditions. Daffodil flowers look similar to lilies, but they’re actually part of the narcissus family. The name “daffodil” actually comes from the Latin word for “trumpet”, which describes how their shape resembles an old-fashioned trumpet.
Daffodils come in many different sizes and colors—from white to orange and even pink! They also have different shapes, including ones that are trumpet-shaped like a tulip or cup-shaped like a lily. Some types of daffodils also have multiple petals per flower head (like Tulipa sylvestris), while others only have one or two (like Narcissus jonquilla).
Gerbera Daisies – are one of the most popular flowers to give as a gift. They’re also known as Gerbera jamesonii, or “African Daisy.” They were named after Dr. Gerber, who first discovered them in South Africa.
Gerbera daisies are often confused with roses, but they actually belong to the same family as carnations and dahlias—the Asteraceae family. The blooms have five petals (like roses), but those petals are much bigger than those on a rose—and they’re usually bright pink or orange. The center of the flower is usually yellow or white. Gerberas have a lot more going on than just their showy appearance: they’re also very fragrant! Their scent can be described as sweet and fruity, but it’s not overpowering like some other flowers’ scents can be.
Ranunculus – are a type of flower that have a particularly striking appearance, with a showy, star-shaped bloom. They are often associated with the color pink but can also be found in shades of purple and yellow. Our design staff loves to blend these gorgeous blooms into arrangements with other floral varieties. We use them in a number of designs, and often feature them in event and wedding flower arrangements.
While ranunculus look like other flowers on the outside, they have a distinctive structure on the inside. Ranunculi are actually tubers (the root system) that grow off of bulbs. The bulb is planted in soil, while the tubers grow at an angle from the bulb underground; they eventually reach the surface of the soil and form flowers above ground. This unique structure allows ranunculus to produce flowers continuously throughout the growing season; unlike many other flowers that only bloom during certain times of year (such as roses), ranunculus are available all year round!
